Anderson: Dover’s pedestrian safety ordinance needs approval

Posted

Editor’s note: This was also sent to the members of Dover City Council.

As someone who signed the petition in favor of the pedestrian safety ordinance, with well over 500 others, I ask that you vote in favor of it. I echo the sentiment that many people had at the recent town hall: There’s a lot of discussion around crime and public safety, but it seems that, every time there’s legislation to help with that (like this ordinance and the Alderman’s Court measure), it gets shot down.

Frankly speaking, this is starting to feel more and more like many of our politicians don’t care about the safety and liberty of our citizens if it ruffles too many feathers. Each of my family members has been a victim of crime in Dover, and we’re not the only ones. That being said, it’s not too late to better protect the interests of our community and to strengthen our city.
