LINCOLN - Alton Oliver "Ollie" King, departed this earthly life Thursday, July, 9, 2009, after a long illness. He was born in Bridgeville July 23, 1930, to the late Oscar and Delma (Donovan) King, and was raised in Lincoln. He attended Lincoln School and married Annie Barrett in 1947 and spent most of his life as a Meat Cutter and Storekeeper. He attended Eastern Shore Community Church in Georgetown. Alton's dream was to own his own grocery business, and he was a devoted husband and father. He worked for many years at Acme Markets in the DE/MD area prior to buying and operating several stores of his own, the last being King's Market in Lincoln. He loved playing guitar and singing with his family. In his younger years, he sang with the 'Diamond State Boys", a local Country Western Group. He was actively involved in his church. Mr. King was a kind and generous man, a good friend to all he knew, and will be greatly missed. His brothers, Harold, William Earl, Virgil and Edwin "Dickie" King, preceded him in death. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 61 years, Annie Barrett King of Lincoln; and eight children, Alton C. and Debbie King of Fruitland, Md., Linda A. Ashley of Lincoln, John Edward and Cheryl King of Hurlock, Md., Dwight W. and Jo Ann King of Mt. Vernon, Md., Barrett E. King of Lincoln, Michael G. and Rene King of Westover, Md., Beverly M. and Keene Wong of Salisbury, Md., and Brenda L. and Clark Whittington of Whitesville, N.C.; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Ann Veal of Seaford. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the Milford Church of God, 500 N. Walnut St., Milford. Interment will be in the Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations in his name be made to the Eastern Shore Community Church, 18793 N. DuPont Blvd., Georgetown, DE 19947; or Milford Church of God, 500 N. Walnut St., Milford, DE 19963, which he attended over 50 years. Arrangements handled by Berry-Short Funeral Home.
