Allen R. Craft, 83

LINCOLN - Allen R. Craft, of Lincoln, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2009, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 83. He was born at home in Brownsville, to the late Lloyd L. and Nettie Daisey Wilkerson Craft. Mr. Craft served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. He served in the Pacific, and participated in the Battle of Luzon during World War II. Mr. Craft worked at the old hosiery mill in Greenwood and the spoon factory in Milton. At one time he painted the smoke stacks at the old Tidal Oil Company (now Getty) at Delaware City. He also worked at DuPont, General Foods, and did construction at different places. In his spare time, he enjoyed crabbing, fishing, going on long rides, playing the slots, bingo, eating out and doing puzzles. He was a proud member of the Greenwood VFW, and for the past 57 years, served as honor guard attending funerals for veterans. He belonged to the Frederica Senior Center, and was active in their annual veterans programs. He was also a member of Modern Maturity Center, Milford Adult Center, and the Harrington Moose Lodge. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Craft; second wife, Jennie Craft; and brothers, Lester L. Craft and Nelson Craft. He is survived by brothers, Thomas Craft and his wife Ethel from Milford and Arthur L. Craft from Seaford; niece, Karen F. Craft-Walls; and several other nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Mary Massey of Felton. Services were Wednesday, May 27, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Interment will be in Milford Community Cemetery. Instead of flowers, donations are encouraged to the Greenwood VFW, Post 7478 Honor Guard, Cor Mil Street Ave., Greenwood, DE 19950.
