MILFORD - Alice Marie Black died Sunday, July 29, 2012, at Milford Center Genesis Eldercare. Mrs. Black was born in Milford, Del. the daughter of the late John P. and Margaret (Hammond) Smoot. She worked at L.D. Caulk, then at the Commissary at the Dover Air Force Base and then at Leggetts and Peebles before retiring. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. Alice loved flowers and enjoyed gardening. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Merritt M. Black; two sons, Harold P Shockley, Jr. and Richard W. Shockley; and a sister, Ann Lane. She is survived by two sons, H. Davis Shockley and his wife Nancy and Phillip Shockley and his wife Debbie; six grandchildren, Tim Shockley and his wife Tina, Brandi Shockley, Michael Shockley and his wife Pam, J.R. Shockley and his wife Kristen, Mary Christina Cammarato, and Harold D. "Buddy" Shockley; 11 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 12 p.m., on Thursday, August 2, 2012, at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford DE, where friends may call from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Burial will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to a charity of your choice.
