Alice Louise Blades, 81

FELTON - Alice Louise Blades, of Felton, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2009. She was 81. She was born in Felton to the late Harold Voshell and Lillian Roach. Louise graduated from Felton High School in 1946 as Salutatorian of her class. She played basketball and the trumpet in the band, and loved to dance. After graduation, she worked at Laytex in Dover. Later, she was the co-owner of the Blades Bus Service in Felton. She also worked for over 34 plus years at the Felton Post Office and retired in 1990. Louise was well known for her cooking. Everyone could attest to her delicious recipes and creations. She won several local and national contests, including one that sent her to Hawaii. She was the Delaware Chicken Cooking Champion several times. Her fried chicken, rice pudding, and jams were just a few of her award winning creations. Louise will be remembered as a strong willed, independent, unselfish, and loving mother, grandmother, and friend to all. She would do anything for anybody, and oftentimes did. She loved being around her family, and enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed going to the slots and spending time with her childhood best friend, Anna Barta Yurek. She was preceded in death by husband, Lester Blades Sr.; and brother, Harold Voshell Jr. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Lester and Mary Jean Blades Jr. of Felton; daughter, Donna Lee Robinson of Felton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert J. and Joyce Voshell, Clarence (Honey), and Loey Voshell; sister-in-law, Charlotte Gingerich; grandchildren and spouses, Angela Leigh and Steven Gott, Brian Edward Robinson, Eric Jason and Kimberly Robinson, Thomas Mason Blades, and Andrew Louis Blades; great-grandchildren, Kyle Jeffrey Gott, Trevor Ethan Gott, William Edward Robinson, Wesley John Robinson, Justice Ryan Robinson, and Catherine Lee Robinson; and several nieces and nephews Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where a visitiation will be one hour prior. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery.
