Alfred 'Al' Kenneth Coulson

MARYDEL - Alfred "Al" Kenneth Coulson, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at home. He was 85. Mr. Coulson was born May 20, 1924 in Media, Pa. He served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War, and received two Purple Hearts, attaining the rank of MSgt. After the military he became a long distance truck driver working for various companies, retiring from the Teamsters Union in 1983. Mr. Coulson attended Baltimore Culinary Arts School graduating with an AAS at the age of 61. He was a life member of the Marydel Volunteer Fire Department and was also a member of the Delaware Fire Police and the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Coulson enjoyed being around family and friends, as well as sharing his culinary talents with them. He truly loved his black labs Jack and Shady. Mr. Coulson was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor Josey Coulson, 1980; and his son, Michael Coulson, 2003. He is survived by his daughters, Darlene Coulson and her husband Morgan Freiman of Houston, Texas, Wendy S. Strauss and her husband Albert of Marydel; four grandchildren, Jason Strauss and his wife Brandy, Lacie Spence and her husband Johnny, Becky Lee Coulson and Jessica Faye Stamas; and four great-grandchildren, Idalis Leigh, Bryanna and Nathan Stamas and born Sept. 17, 2009, Johnny Spence, Jr. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 21, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. tonight. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Marydel Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 400, Marydel, DE 19964.
