Alfred Jack 'Pop' LePore, 98 DOVER - Alfred Jack "Pop" LePore, formerly of Marydel, Md., was born Jan. 24, 1912, in Newark, N.J., the son of Michael and Saveria LePore. Jack or Pop as he preferred to be called owned and operated a pizza/sub shop with his wife in Denton, Md., and later in Dover. He began employment with the Delaware Department of Transportation (DAST) at the age of 69 and retiring at the age of 85. He was recognized by the Senate upon his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the Marydel Fire Company, a member of the Dover Moose Lodge, and an active member of the Marydel Immaculate Conception Church. He enjoyed dancing, bowling, and loved socializing. He was a friend to all and a stranger to none. Pop was an avid baseball fan - he loved the Baltimore Orioles. He also enjoyed watching WWE/WWF wrestling with his great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna d'Alessio LePore; a son, Sebastian "Steve" LePore; a daughter, Sarah Riddleberger; six brothers, two sisters, one grandchild and three nephews. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Columbia and James Porter, with whom he resided; one sister-in-law, Philomena Tribbitt; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren, 15 nephews and nieces plus many -many great nephews and nieces; a special nephew, Mike and his wife Virginia; a special niece, Sarah "Peggy" DeMarie; and a special granddaughter, Deborah "Debbie" Bland with whom he lived with for several months each year. Pop lived a long and active life, just recently renewing his driver's license in December, 2009. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 8th at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, Marydel, Md., with interment following in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover. A visitation will be held in the church from 9 to 9:30 a.m. prior to the service and on Wednesday July 7th from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W. Sunset Ave. Greensboro, Md. Contributions may be made to the Marydel Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 400, Marydel, DE 19964; or the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, P.O. Box 399, Marydel, MD 21649.
