DOVER - Alfonso Leroy Nixon Jr., 46, fondly known as Nicky, departed this life at his home March 11, 2011. Nicky was born Dec. 25, 1964, and the son of Alfonso Leroy Nixon Sr. and the late Ann Mae Nixon. He was the fourth sibling of eight children. Nicky learned to love Jehovah at an early age and was a member of the Woodside Kingdom Hall. Nicky was a living TV guide. If you needed to know the television line-up, he was the man to go to. Constantly walking, he had his own trail in the grass of his backyard. As a child, he earned several medals for swimming and bowling through Special Olympics and loved to draw cartoons; marvel comic style. Cooking was another one of his past times and learning new recipes. He enjoyed a good meal and liked his meals on time. Having fun…that was Nicky; telling jokes, and listening to R& B.; Joe Texx was his favorite artist. After graduating from Dover High, Nicky worked 25 years at Proctor & Gamble through Kent Sussex Industries with several certificates of perfect attendance. In the last year, Nicky contracted ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). During his illness, his faith sustained him and he never complained. He was preceded in death, his mother, Ann Mae Nixon; and a sister, Charlene Moore and Lee James Moore (Billy). Nicky's precious memories will be cherished by his father, Alfonso L. Nixon Sr; a brother, Anthony Nixon; five sisters, Agnes, Althea and Leslie Nixon of Dover, Rachel Nixon of Wilmington, Edna Davis (Marvin) of Waldorf, Md.; nine nephews, Loren, DJ, Scott, Daniel, Elijah, Marcus, Little Jay, Titus Norman; two nieces, Ann-Jannette and Lawren; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 W. Division Street, Dover. Viewing will be two hours prior to the service. Interment will be in Sharon Hill Memorial Cemetery, Dover. Letters of condolence and guestbook may be signed at www.benniesmithfuneralhome.com. Arrangements by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.
