Albert F. Wilson, 65 CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Albert F. Wilson, of Chestertown, died on Jan. 21, 2010, at his home. He was 65. He served 42 years of service to his country - 30 of them in the Delaware National Guard and retiring in 2004. Albert enlisted in the Air Force in June 1962 and served for three years as an Aircraft Control Warning Operator. In April 1965 he was assigned to the 619thTactical Control Squadron, Tan Son Nhut Air Base, Republic of South Vietnam as a Tactical Air Controller. After his discharge from the United States Air Force in 1966 he joined the Maryland Army National Guard where he served for eight years as a Nike Hercules Intercept Fire Control Crewman in an Air Defense Artillery unit - progressing through the ranks to Staff Sgt. In July 1974, after the Air Defense Unit was deactivated he transferred to the Delaware National Guard, and has served admirably in supervisory positions of increasing responsibility in both Signal and Medical units, culminating in his assignment as Senior Maintenance Supervisor of the 198th Signal Battalion. His initial assignment was with Company B, 198th Signal Bn. In September 1975, Staff Sgt. Wilson was assigned to the 116 Mash unit where he received numerous recognition and awards. In Feb 1993, Master Sgt. Wilson was assigned to the 261st Signal Brigade and then to HHD 198th S4 Maintenance section as the senior maintenance supervisor where he spent the rest of his military career. One of his favorite pass times was softball, in which he was involved with both the Independant League and ASA. He is survived by his son, Sean; granddaughter, Brenna; sister, Marie Rhoades; and her family. A memorial service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 30, at Hope Fellowship, in Chestertown, where friends may call one hour prior.
