Agnes Grant of Houston, Delaware passed away on January 9, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Agnes was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England on July 12, 1940, to Agnes and Harold Blackman. She grew up with an older brother Thomas and a younger sister Mary. She attended La Sagesse, a private Catholic school for girls in Jesmond, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. After her father was killed in Normandy, her mother remarried George Thompson and they had another daughter, Agnes's sister, Janet Thompson. Before leaving England, Agnes worked for the Government Ministry of the Gasworks.
In 1964, Agnes came to America with her husband, Bob and her six-month old daughter, Elaine. She became a proud American citizen. They grew their family, with three sons, Bobby and the twins: Thomas & James. She supported her husband’s business Grant & Sons Roofing by managing the office. Once again, they added to their family with a beautiful little girl, Theresa. Agnes attended Delaware Technical College in Georgetown and worked for J.C. Penney Bank, which later became 1st National Bank of Wyoming.
She loved spending time with family at Sunday dinners, birthdays, weddings, recitals, sporting events, etc. She was greatly loved and will truly be missed. Our Mom, Nana, Granny, Sister, and Auntie Agnes.
She is survived by her Sister: Janet (Thompson) Patterson; Her children: Elaine Grant, Robert & wife Mary (Reirden) Grant, Thomas & wife Joanne (Saulsbury) Grant, James Grant, & Theresa (Grant) & husband Ed Gray; Grandchildren: Bobby Grant & wife Ashley (Mack), Nicholas Grant & fiancé Morgan Popovich, Shelby (Grant) & husband Matthew Viaramontes. Edwin Quade Gray, Aurora Gray, Tavish Grant; and Great Grandchildren Trey, Theo, Delaney, Ty and Thane Grant
A viewing will be held at Lofland Funeral Home, 102, Lakeview Ave., Milford, DE on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Friday, January 24, 2025, at St. Bernadette Church, 109 Dixon St., Harrington, DE. 19952. The Rev. Anthony Giamello will be officiating. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery on Milford-Harrington Hwy., Harrington, DE. Letters of condolence may be shared with the family at www.loflandandmcknatt.com.
