Police: Abandoned hotel burglary brings Seaford man's arrest

NEWARK ‑Norris Macklin, 51, of Seaford, was arrested after allegedly burglarizing an abandoned hotel Wednesday, Delaware State Police said.

According to authorities, at approximately 11:33 a.m., a trooper on patrol observed a person carrying bolt cutters in the parking lot within the fenced-off property of the Country Inn and Suites at 1024 Old Churchmans Road.

Spokesman Senior Cpl. Jason Hatchell said the hotel is closed with a fence bordering the property and multiple signs to keep off the property. The trooper contacted the person identified as Mr. Macklin and observed signs of forced entry into the building.

Mr. Macklin was taken into custody without incident.

Mr. Macklin was charged with third-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools, theft under $1,500, second-degree criminal trespass, criminal mischief and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $5,000 secured bond.
