Dr. Murray “Ray” Hoy has been named the fifth president of Delaware Technical Community College, the Dover-based college announced today.

The appointment was the result of a vote by the Board of Trustees at a special board meeting held today. The appointment concludes a search launched by the community college system in March.

The school said that the committee chose Hoy from 20 candidates.

Delaware Tech officials cited Hoy’s “impressive educational background; extensive experience as a community college administrator and president; and a proven track record in student success, shared governance and fundraising.”

In a statement, Trustees Chairman Mark S. Stellini said Hoy’s strong credentials were key to his selection.

“As a graduate of a community college, he brings an inherent understanding of and commitment to the mission of these institutions,” Stellini said. “His breadth and depth of leadership experiences will serve him and the college well as he leads the institution in the future.”

Hoy has been serving as president of Salisbury’s Wor-Wic Community College since July 2000. Prior to that position, the Chestertown native spent 24 years at Chesapeake College, where he held numerous positions including; executive vice president (chief academic and chief administrative officer), administrative vice president, dean of student development and director of admissions and registration.
