Wicomico Teams compete in Destination Imagination finals

Destination Imagination, known as “DI,” is an activity that student teams engage in after school and on weekends to build their skills in creative problem solving, teamwork and critical thinking.

DI transcends race, gender and ethnic boundaries and is unparalleled in its engagement of parents.

This year six Wicomico County DI teams presented themselves well both in conduct and performance at Global Finals as they competed with 1,500+ teams from other states and 150 countries.

Certificates of achievement to the Destination Imagination teams from Wicomico County Public Schools that finished in the top three in the state in the Maryland DI Tournament and advanced to Global Finals in Knoxville, Tenn.:

Challenge A: Technical/Mechanical: Dig In, Elementary. Fruitland Daydreamerz: 1st place at the State Tournament, 33rd place at Global Finals. Kaitlin Cashman, Landon Weer, Landon Stauffer, Blakelyn Moore, Allison Harris, Jack Cuppett and Elijah Gregg, team manager Dave Harris

Challenge C: Theater Arts / Fine Arts: Laugh Art Loud

Elementary:  North Salisbury School Flying Manatees, 3rd place at the State Tournament, 7th place among 92 teams for the Instant Challenge (Top 10 Globals recognition), 51st overall. Reagan Hockenbrock, Sheyene Brown, Johnnie Watkins, Katie Pilcher, Bill Pilcher and Da Hyun Son, team manager Mandy Hockenbrock

Middle Level: Salisbury Middle School DI-scoverers, 3rd place at the State Tournament, 36th place at Global Finals. Klaira Bievenour, Aman Shahzad, Carolyn Sidell, EunHa Yim and Katerina Yiannouris, team managers Ronna Bievenour and Abby Sidell

Challenge D: Improvisation/Theater Arts: Pandemonium. Wicomico Schools swept the top 3 places in the Maryland elementary competition.

Westside Intermediate School Funky Monkeys, 3rd place at the State Tournament, 32nd place at Global Finals. Makenzie Johnson, Ethan Baker, Luke Dean, Gavin Parker, Brennan Kaiser, Maya Matava and Cassidy O'Connell, team managers Jodi Reikard and Jen Parker

Pinehurst Elementary Olympic Improvers, 2nd place at the State Tournament, 42nd place at Global Finals. Peyton Bradford, Dane Stone, McKenna Serres, Noah White and Madelyn Benn, team manager Jodi Woods

North Salisbury School Flying Mustache Ponies, 1st place at the State Tournament, 7th place (Top 10 Global Finals recognition). Kilee Taylor, Sarah Forrestal, Sara Sadjadi, Osman Yaya and David Choi, team managers Andrea Taylor and Shannon Forrestal
