Wicomico Recreation: Summer camps approaching

Posted

The first day of spring is approaching, which means it’s time to start thinking about summer camp. Registration for Wicomico County Recreation, Parks & Tourism’s Pemberton Park Nature Camp and Kids Klub Summer Escape opened this month, along with registration for other outdoor programs.

Pemberton Park Nature Camp

Children ages 6 to 14 can get in touch with the outdoor world through Pemberton Park Nature Camp. The camp will run from June 17-Aug. 23 and take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. During 10 fun theme weeks, participants will interact with animals, explore the environment, go fishing, learn about camping and more. There will be two interactive field trips per week.

The early bird registration rate, available through April 30 at 11:59 p.m., is $140 per child per week of camp. The rate after that date is $150 per week. There is a sibling discount of $10 per child per week, when the children are registered in the same week of camp.

Learn more and register at PembertonPark.org.

Kids Klub Summer Escape

From H20 Palooza to the Zany Brainy Science Extravaganza, children ages 5-12 will enjoy Kids Klub Summer Escape’s 10 theme weeks. Camp is held at Delmar Elementary, North Salisbury Elementary and Westside Intermediate, with the last week of camp held at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center.

Kids Klub Summer Escape runs from June 19-Aug. 23 and is open Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Camp is $125 per week, with optional weekly field trips costing $20-25 per trip. Initial registration and payment must be completed in person at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center box office.

Coed Incrediball

Have fun with friends or colleagues as part of the Coed Incrediball league. This social league plays on Sunday afternoons in June through August at the Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex and other county fields as needed. Players use an Incrediball, a soft softball.

The program is for men and women ages 16 and up, and the program fee is $325 per team (the max roster size is 16). Registration is open through May 28; register by May 19 to avoid the $50 late fee.

Junior Girls Softball

Girls ages 4-16 can learn softball skills, be part of a team and have fun by participating in one of the Junior Girls Softball program’s five leagues.

The divisions for the program are Li’l Miss T-Ball (born in 2012-2014), Ponytail Coach Pitch (born in 2010 or later), Pre-Minor (born in 2008 or later), Minor (born in 2006 or later) and Major I (born in 2002 or later).

Games begin May 6 and will be up to twice a week. The season runs through June.

Registration is $30 per player for Li’l Miss T-Ball, $50 per player for the Ponytail and Pre-Minor leagues, and $55 per player for the Minor and Major I leagues.

After March 6, registration is based on availability. Late fees go into effect March 16 for Ponytail through Major I leagues and April 2 for Li’l Miss T-Ball.

Run to Remember Memorial Day 5K

Honor the nation’s fallen heroes this Memorial Day weekend by participating in the Run to Remember Memorial Day 5K Run/Walk, set for Saturday, May 25, at WinterPlace Park. New this year is the option for a 1 Mile Fun Walk, which will not be timed.

The race begins at 9 a.m., with check-in and registration at 8 a.m. Registration is open now and is $25 in advance or $20 for military (with ID, register in person only). The registration fee goes up to $30 on race day. To guarantee a race shirt, register no later than 5 p.m. on May 6.

Proceeds benefit the Wicomico War Veterans' Memorial at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center, which honors the citizens of Wicomico County who lost their lives while serving the United States during war.
