Wicomico County state of emergency set to end

SALISBURY — Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano has announced that the state of emergency for Wicomico County will officially end on Monday, January 26 at 5 p.m.

Officials said the decision was made after a thorough review of road and weather conditions across the county. Conditions have improved sufficiently to allow the emergency to be lifted at the end of normal business hours today.

“I want to commend our essential employees, especially our entire Public Works Department for their outstanding efforts during this storm,” County Executive Giordano said. “Their dedication, long hours, and professionalism ensured our roads were treated and maintained to keep residents as safe as possible under challenging conditions.”

County officials said they will continue to monitor conditions as temperatures change and encourage residents to remain cautious while traveling.

As a reminder, the Newland Park Landfill opened at 9 a.m. and the Convenience Centers will open at 12pm.

For continued updates and information, residents are encouraged to monitor official Wicomico County communications.

City of Salisbury
The City of Salisbury additionally announced that the local state of emergency was lifted effective 6 a.m. Monday, January 26.

City officials expressed appreciation for the cooperation and resilience shown by residents, businesses and emergency personnel throughout the duration of the emergency declaration.
As previously announced, City offices and buildings will remain closed Monday, January 26. Offices are expected to reopen Tuesday, January 27.

Salisbury City Council meetings scheduled for Monday, January 26th at 6 p.m. have been canceled. Agenda items from those meetings will be added to the February 2nd agendas.

Wicomico County Public Schools

Due to inclement weather and road conditions, Wicomico County Public Schools are closed on Monday, January 26th. (Students were already scheduled to be off for the staff professional day, but now schools and Central Office will be closed for staff as well.)

Salisbury University

Salisbury University will be closed Jan. 26. Classes will be held virtually as previously announced. For more information, including staff expectations, visit www.salisbury.edu/news

Wor-Wic
Wor-Wic Community College will be closed on Monday. All classes are canceled.
