Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service, the largest provider of pro bono civil legal services to low-income Marylanders, reported that in the past 12 months, 13 Wicomico County lawyers provided free legal services to Maryland residents, helping to bridge the justice gap in the state

Since 1981, MVLS has provided a lifeline to low-income Marylanders through its panel of volunteer attorneys.

MVLS’ volunteers provide services for estate planning, divorce and child custody proceedings, landlord-tenant disputes, bankruptcy, criminal record expungements, as well as many other civil legal challenges.

In the past year, 665 volunteer attorneys closed 3,206 pro bono cases through individual representation or assistance at a clinic. Collectively, donated legal services were valued at more than $4.6 million.

Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service serves Maryland’s low-income residents by offering free civil legal services through a panel of experienced volunteer lawyers. MVLS matches clients with volunteer lawyers who represent them in a wide range of consumer and family situations, including foreclosure, bankruptcy, income tax disputes, landlord/tenant disputes, denial of public benefits, wills, divorce/custody and deed changes.
