SALISBURY -Wendell Holmes Rhodes, 86, of Salisbury, died on Friday, Dec. 24, 2010 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. Born in Saxis, Va., he was the son of the late Norrie Thomas Rhodes and Minnie Bonawell Rhodes. Wendell was a bus driver for Trailways for 37 years, retiring in 1986. He received an award for driving over two million miles without an accident. He was a US Army WW II veteran and attended the Zion United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling all over the United States. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mabel Virginia Pruitt Rhodes; a daughter, Sandra Eileen Rhodes Potter and her husband, Wayne of Cambridge; four grandchildren, Richard Wayne Potter and his wife, Nancy of Cambridge, Ronald Reuben Potter of Baltimore, Charles Holmes Potter and wife, Michele of Germantown and John David Rhodes of Salisbury; a great-grandson, Nicholas Aaron Potter of Cambridge; a daughter in-law, Georgia Rhodes of Salisbury and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas David Rhodes and three sisters, Amanda Stevens, Pauline Bundick and Louise Miles. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors followed in the chapel at Springhill Memory Gardens near Hebron. Rev. Rich Walton officiated.
