Weather forecast good for Sunday Christmas parade

Posted

The Salisbury Jaycees will host the 73st annual Salisbury Christmas Parade, presented by Mountaire Farms, at 2 p.m. this Sunday

The parade route remains the same as in recent years, beginning at the intersection of Civic Avenue and Mount Hermon Road, continuing to East Main Street and ending at Wicomico Middle School.

The judges’ stand is located near the fountain in City Park.

This year’s theme is “A Very Country Christmas.”

Nearly 100 entries are expected, including floats, marching bands, area fire departments, Scout troops, animal units and elected officials.

Sunday, Dec. 15, is the rain date, but the early-week forecast calls for sunny skies and temperatures in the low 50s.

For more information visit the Salisbury Jaycees’ website at salisburyjc.com or Facebook page at facebook.com/salisburyjaycees.

For more than 70 years, the Salisbury Jaycees have diligently worked to plan and organize the annual Salisbury Christmas parade.

Volunteers are always needed to organize the parade and to volunteer on the day of the parade. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact kristy@salsiburyjc.com.

The parade is traditionally held on the first Sunday of December, but because Thanksgiving fell on the Thursday prior to the first Sunday in December, the parade has been moved to the second Sunday with a rain date on the third Sunday.

Trophies will be awarded in categories including best marching band, best commercial entry, best non-commercial entry, best non-commercial float, best youth entry, best scout troop, best fire department, best motorized unit, best animal unit and best marching unit.

The parade will be televised on PAC 14, channel 14 on Comcast in Salisbury.
