Ward Foundation names carving winners for 2019

Judges use a raft to evaluate floating decoys in the Assawoman Bay behind the Ocean City Convention Center, site of the 49th Annual World Championship Wildfowl Carving Competition.

The Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art held the 49th Annual World Championship Wildfowl Carving Competition and Art Festival last weekend at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center in Ocean City.

Carvers of all levels from all over the world entered more than 1,200 carvings in 39 different divisions, which included lifesize and miniature decorative bird carvings, interpretive carvings, and several categories of working decoys.

At the award ceremony on Saturday evening, the winners of the World Champion Divisions were announced with the exception of Shootin’ Rig, which due to weather conditions on the bay was judged and announced Sunday morning.

Decorative Lifesize

•Phoebe by Larry Barth, Stahlstown, Pa.

•Bitten by Gary Eigenberger, Green Bay, Wis.

•Chestnut Sided Warbler by Joshua Guge, Pingree Grove, Il.

Floating Decorative

•Ruddy Duck Pair by Leonard Rousseau, Kneeland, Calif.

•Ruddy Duck Pair by Kent Duff, Rochester, Minn.

•Ruddy Duck Pair by Jamie Welsh, Simpsonville, S.C.

Decorative Miniature

•Reddish Egret by Gary Eigenberger, Green Bay, Wis.

•Snowy Owl with Crow by Alan Jordan, Rochester, N.Y.

•Quail by Gerald Painter, Great Falls, Mont.

Interpretive Wood

•Port Tern by Jett Brunet, Galliano, La.

•Frogmouths by Gary Eigenberger, Green Bay, Wis.

•Loon by Larry Hare, Schwenksville, Pa.

Shootin’ Rig

•Mallards by Pat Godin, Paris, Ontario, Can.

•Wigeons by Jon Jones, Algonac, Mich.
