ATLANTA, Ga. - Wallace Edward Thompson Sr. transitioned to eternal life on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, in Atlanta, Ga., at the age of 66. He was born in Cambridge, Md., on Sept. 26, 1944. Wallace received his early education in Dorchester County Public Schools, where he graduated from Maces Lane High School in 1962. He was an avid sports fan and athlete. He ran track in high school and was known as one of the "fastest" men in Cambridge. Upon graduation, Wallace enlisted in the military in 1962. He served honorably in the United States Air Force stationed in Alaska and New Jersey. While serving in the U.S. Air Force, Wallace performed the duties as an Administrative Specialist. After completing his active duty commitment and receiving an honorable discharge, Wallace returned to Maryland where he was employed for many years by Airpax of Cambridge and later Maryland Department of Motor Vehicle Administration in Easton, Maryland. He retired from the Motor Vehicle Administration in 1998 and later pursued a career as an Independent Insurance Agent. Wallace loved God and found his true calling of preaching the Gospel. He attended several seminary schools. Wallace was an avid reader and continual learner. He was ordained to preach by Bishop Clarence Cornish of New Jerusalem Church of God in Wilmington, Delaware and Cambridge, Maryland. At this time, he received the title of Elder Wallace Thompson. For a number of years, he continued as an Elder at New Jerusalem Church; however, in the early 1980's, Wallace founded Evangelistic Church of Christ in Cambridge, Maryland. He was the Pastor of Evangelistic Church of Christ for fifteen years. Wallace was well loved and known for his sharp appearance, cool demeanor, and Biblical knowledge. He was a pillar in the community of Cambridge. For over a decade, he served as a mentor and basketball coach to youth males. He also provided counsel to his congregation, as well as many other family members and friends. His vast knowledge of the Bible allowed him to apply relevant scripture to any situation. Although he served many others, Wallace was a devoted husband and father. He married his teenage love, the late Ernestine Cornish in November 1966 and from this union the couple had two beautiful children, Elayna and Wallace Jr. Wallace loved his family very much and was his children's number one fan. In 2002, Wallace moved to Atlanta, Ga., and became a member of Word of Faith Family Worship Cathedral. It was after this move that he met and married QueenEsther Martin in June 2007. He loved to be serenaded by the beautiful voice of his wife. This husband and wife team formed a song and sermon ministry, serving the Atlanta area. Wallace leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Queen Esther Martin Thompson; his daughter, Elayna Wilson (Darryl), all of Atlanta, Ga.; his sister, Tyvonia Williams (Stuart) of Landover, Md.; his sister Donna Kane (Carlos) of Cambridge, Md.; his brother, Algie Wheatley of Boston, Mass.; his grandson, Naa'il Thompson; his stepfather, James Jolley, both of Cambridge, Md.; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Essie Thompson; grandfather, Fred Thompson Sr.; mother, Lillian Jolley; father, Joseph Wheatley; sister, Rosemary Merritt; first wife, Ernestine Thompson; and son, Wallace Thompson Jr. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at Word of Faith Family Worship Cathedral, Austell, Ga. Interment is Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, 11a.m. at the Eastern Shore Veteran's Cemetery, Hurlock, Md. Condolences sent to www.henryfuneralhomepa.com.
