ROLLA, Mo. -- Virginia Lee Linton, 83, formerly of Cambridge, passed away on Friday, Nov. 17, 2006 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla.
She was born in Dorchester County on Sept. 15, 1923 and was a daughter of the late William Preston and Alice Virginia Bell Slacum.
Mrs. Linton graduated from Cambridge High School in 1941. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Cambridge and had also been a member of the Does of Cambridge Lodge No. 1272 B.P.O.E.
On Dec. 2, 1954 she was married to Thomas Warren Linton Sr. Mr. Linton passed away on Dec. 29, 2000. Mrs. Linton had worked at McCrory"s and Feldman"s in Cambridge and for 32 years had worked at Airpax in Cambridge as a secretary.
For many years she had been an avid reader. She had been living at the Heritage Park Nursing home in Rolla, Mo. since last July and had been in failing health for two years.
Survivors include a daughter, Alice Ann Todd of Linkwood; son, George C. Bennett Sr. of Rolla, Mo.; one stepson, Thomas W. Linton Jr. of Newbern, N. Calif. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a brother, William P. Slacum Jr.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tues. at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Douglas M. Ridley officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service.

Pallbearers will be Gillis Todd Jr., Dale C. Price III, James Fitzhugh and George C. Bennett Jr.
