Suspect in New Hampshire country club shooting to appear in court
SUMMARY: A man charged in a fatal shooting at a New Hampshire country club is set to make an initial court appearance Monday. Authorities say patrons at a restaurant acted quickly and selflessly to stop a gunman who opened fire while a wedding was taking place at a New Hampshire country club, averting a worse tragedy. They say one person was killed and two others were wounded by the gunfire Saturday night before the suspect was taken into custody in a nearby neighborhood not long after the shooting. Authorities say gunfire killed 59-year-old Robert DeCesare Jr. at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua. Witnesses at the scene say someone struck the shooter with a chair in an attempt to subdue him.

Ukrainian refugee’s train stabbing death becomes early flashpoint in 2026 North Carolina Senate race
SUMMARY: The stabbing death of a Ukrainian refugee on a North Carolina commuter train has become an early flashpoint in what will be a lengthy and expensive U.S. Senate campaign. The attack on Iryna Zarutska last month in Charlotte has sparked a clash between likely nominees Republican Michael Whatley and Democrat Roy Cooper. Whatley is a recent Republican National Committee chairman and accuses Cooper of being soft on crime. Cooper is a former governor and defends his record on criminal justice. Whatley and Cooper entered the race this summer after Republican Sen. Thom Tillis announced he would not seek reelection. Some pundits think spending in next year’s race could reach $1 billion.

SUMMARY: Eight months into his second term, President Donald Trump’s long-standing pledge to take on those he perceives as his political enemies has prompted debates over free speech, media censorship and political prosecutions. From late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s ouster to Pentagon restrictions on reporters and an apparent public appeal to Attorney General Pam Bondi to pursue legal cases against his adversaries, Trump has escalated moves to consolidate power in his second administration and root out those who have spoken out against him. However, Moscow has issues with some proposals and peace still seems a distant possibility. Concerns have grown that the conflict could spread beyond Ukraine. Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said four of the victims, including the children’s father, held U.S. citizenship. The U.S. State Department, however, said none of the five appeared to be a U.S. citizen, but the situation was still “fluid.” Israel has been striking southern and eastern Lebanon almost daily since a ceasefire with Hezbollah was reached in November. Lebanese officials warn these strikes risk destabilizing the country and hindering efforts to disarm Hezbollah.
