US--CHARLIE KIRK-SHOT
Utah governor says the motive in Kirk shooting is not yet certain but the suspect was on the left
SUMMARY: Utah Gov. Spencer Cox says investigators are not yet ready to discuss a motive in the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk but that the 22-year-old who was arrested leaned to the left. Cox said Sunday that information comes from interviews with suspect Tyler Robinson’s family and friends. The governor also said Robinson is not being cooperative in custody. Cox is a Republican who has called for partisans on both sides to tone down their rhetoric after the assassination. Cox also confirmed reports that Robinson was in a romantic relationship with his roommate, who is transgender. Cox stressed the roommate knew nothing of the attack and has been cooperating with law enforcement.

US--CHARLIE KIRK SHOT-THINGS TO KNOW
What to know about the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s assassination
SUMMARY: Authorities are trying to find out more about the motivations behind the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at a college in Utah after the suspect’s family helped authorities take him into custody. Tyler James Robinson of Washington, Utah, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily harm, and obstruction of justice. The 22-year-old will appear in court Tuesday. According to authorities, Robinson’s family says he had been critical of Kirk. Investigators have spoken to Robinson’s relatives and carried out a search warrant at his family’s home about 240 miles southwest of Utah Valley University, where the shooting took place.

US--CHARLIE KIRK-SHOT-FACT FOCUS
FACT FOCUS: Assassination of Charlie Kirk prompts flood of false and misleading claims online
SUMMARY: A bevy of false and misleading claims proliferated on social media in the two days it took officials to arrest and publicly identify 22-year-old Tyler Robinson as the suspect in Wednesday’s assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. This reaction reflects a phenomenon often seen after breaking news events, when a lack of concrete facts is filled by misinformation and conspiracy theories. Such posts appeared within hours of the killing. Some of the earliest incorrectly identified the shooter before officials had released any information about a suspect. More claims spawned on Thursday and Friday, presenting old videos and photos as recent footage of the shooter and erroneously reporting on Robinson’s background.

US--CHARLIE KIRK SHOT-POLITICAL VIOLENCE
Blame game after acts of political violence can lead to further attacks, experts warn
SUMMARY: From the moment conservative icon Charlie Kirk was felled by an assassin’s bullet, partisans have fought over who’s to blame for his death. But experts on political violence say many of those who commit such crimes don’t fit neatly into a particular bucket. Instead, they seem to act on beliefs that don’t map clearly onto partisan lines. They say what’s more important than the attackers’ state of mind is the broader political environment: The more heated the atmosphere, the more likely it will lead unstable people to commit acts of violence.

Sugar Coke? Department of War? Where some of Trump’s most jaw-dropping promises stand

Once a pledge has been made, though, the president has a way of making notions that once seemed implausible inch toward appearing routine, the more repeats them. From putting cane sugar back in U.S. Coke to ending daylight saving time to creating the Department of War, some of Trump’s biggest jaw-dropping comments have gone nowhere, while others are working their way toward fruition.

Political leaders confront security concerns — and fear — after Kirk’s assassination
SUMMARY: Some political leaders are canceling public appearances after Charlie Kirk’s killing. Others are relying on a large police presence to keep them safe. And still others insist that the assassination that shook the nation last week won’t have any impact on their plans. Elected officials at every level and in both parties are grappling with tough choices as they move deeper into an election season in which the prospect of further violence lingers. SUMMARY: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says he will be seeking answers from Israeli officials about how they see the way forward in Gaza following Israel’s attack on Hamas operatives in Qatar that has upended efforts to broker an end to the conflict. Rubio told reporters on Saturday before leaving for Israel that President Donald Trump remained unhappy with the Israeli strike but that it would not shake U.S. support for Israel. Both Rubio and Trump met on Friday with Qatar’s prime minister to discuss the fallout from the Israeli operation, which has drawn widespread condemnation and appears to have ended attempts to secure an Israel-Hamas ceasefire and release of hostages.
