EAST NEW MARKET - Thomas Henry Sampson, 76, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, at the home of his brother, Allen.
"Tommy," as he was called by family and friends, was born June 2, 1930, in East New Market. He was the second of three sons born to the late Daniel J. Sampson and Frances Edna Farrow.
He obtained his early education in the Dorchester County public schools and was a graduate of the F.D. St. Clair High School.
After graduation, he enlisted in the military and was a Specialist 3rd Class-U.S. Army Tank Driver. He served in Germany during the Cold War. Once he returned to civilian life, he was employed for over 50 years with W. T. Hubbard & Sons, working as a Plant Supervisor in the cannery and farm.
Mr. Sampson was a member of Faith Community United Methodist Church, serving as an usher, member of Methodist Men.
Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Cheeks of Coco, Fla. and Denise Riddick of Suffolk, Va.; a brother, Allen Sampson (Debbie) of Edgewater; a sister, Charlotte Gilyard (Davis) of Reading, Pa.; a stepsister, Betty Best of Oakland, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Genevra Sampson of East New Market and a number of grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend, Parthenia Goslee.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, M. Sgt. Daniel J. Sampson Jr. and a niece, Sherry Gilyard.
Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 4, 2006, at Faith Community United Methodist Church in East New Market with burial services at 1:30 p.m. at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery in Beulah.
Arrangements were handled by Henry Funeral Home, PA in Cambridge.
