The next 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury proves that even in the winter months Downtown Salisbury has tons to offer.
The restaurants and shops will all be open with 3rd Friday menu specials and sales, and the bars are ready to rock with live entertainment booked all night long.
Salisbury University | Downtown Campus, on North Division Street, will open two brand new exhibitions this Friday, Light Shadow Wave Water by Edward Brown and the new works of Kristin Walsh.
Brown, an associate professor in SU’s Art Department, uses charcoal to draw dark and light tones, accentuated with calligraphic lines, to render the rhythmic and nebulous forms of waves at Assateague Island.
Kristin Walsh’s work also draws from landscapes, and investigates how changing uses of the environment refuse any clean distinction between “natural” and “manmade.” She uses installation, photographic prints and sculpture to construct a series of object-landscape scenographies to make visible how and why an object creates a spatial void in a landscape.
The Art Institute and Gallery will also be opening a brand new exhibition, the 15th Annual Blooming Artist Youth Showcase. Be sure to check out the entries from our area’s children.
Awards will be made in four categories; pre-k, elementary, middle and high school. Submissions will be judged and the reception and award ceremony will be held during 3rd Friday.
In addition, the work of Shadi Jahelka, the 2014 BAYS Winner, will be on display in the Foyer Gallery. The AIG is located on the lower level of the Gallery Building off the Plaza.
Down on Poplar Hill Avenue, Season’s Best is having a wine and cheese party with special sales, and upstairs, SWAC will be having an open house introducing their new program, Wicomico ArtScape, that puts local art in county businesses.
Local businesses can come meet program curator, Kathleen Gibson, and artists can bring in samples. This new program already is working with seven businesses, rotating local artists displays, and is looking to add an online shopping component in the near future. Businesses and artists are encouraged to stop by to network and sign-up for the opportunity.
In City Center Building, stop in Bury Apparel for your last chance to score a New Years Eve SBY Sweatshirt, on sale. You can also grab tickets to the 1st Saturday Launch Party before they are gone.
Tickets to the launch party at Headquarters Live are only $20, and all proceeds go to support the brand-new volunteer initiative to bring a free summer concert series to Downtown Salisbury. Tickets will be on sale this 3rd Friday at Roadie Joe’s Bar and Grill and Main Roots Coffee, and the concert features amazing local talent Lewis & Clark, Chris English and The Larks.
The Downtown Bars and Restaurants will all be ready for 3rd Friday with specials for the dinner crowd, and plenty of entertainment planned for the night. For the happy hour and dinner crowd, Roadie Joe’s has Josh Pryor, Cellar Door has Paul Brion and Brew River has the Keith White Duo.
Starting at 10 p.m., The Brick Room has live music from Breakfast, Echelon has The Uprizing band, Market Street has DJ B-Side and Roadie Joe’s has DJ Rusty Griswald. Headquarters Live, Downtown Salisbury’s brand new concert venue, will have a live concert by 3am Toyko.
3F is an all-volunteer effort, a downtown economic development initiative and a project of the Salisbury Arts & Entertainment District Committee. For More Information: 3rdFridaySby.com.
