CRISFIELD - Thelma M. Smith was blessed and highly favored (a phrase from the Bible she often quoted), and she went to be with her Lord on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009. Thelma lived in the United States for about 30 years after immigrating from Jamaica. She met her husband, Lonnie Smith in Washington, D.C. and they eventually settled in Westover until his death when she moved to Princess Anne. Ms. Smith is survived by a sister, Ermine Murray of Jamaica; her son, Baron Grey of California; a sister, Pamela Best and her husband John of England, and their son Jason Best; a niece, Doreen Brown of Jamaica; a nephew, Hugh Brown of Jamaica; a nephew, Gary McNeil of Baltimore; a nephew, Anthony McNeil of Toronto; a nephew, Michael McNeil of Atlanta; and a nephew, Dwight McNeil of Florida. Ms. Smith was a teacher in Jamaica (and always a teacher at heart) and she retired from the Boy Scouts of America to move to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Her accomplishments in this world were shy compared to the audience she held in Heaven. Thelma Smith was a self-proclaimed prayer warrior and many who read these words were influenced by her prayers and her words of encouragement. Now that her journey is complete, in her own words, she would want you to know that, "All is well!" If you would like to join the family at the funeral, it will be held on January 31st at Walker Memorial Church of God in Princess Anne which is less than a mile down Stewart Neck Rd. from Rt. 13. There will be visitation time from 1 to 2 p.m., the funeral begins at 2 p.m. followed by a graveside service and a reception back at Walker Memorial Church of God.
