Super Heroes is theme of this week's 3rd Friday

This week’s 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury will be held outdoors, with artists, crafters and live music on the Plaza, plus special activities in Lot 15 and on North Division Street.

This month’s theme is Super Heroes, so get ready to dress up like your favorite superheroes and villains. Join the costume contest for a chance to win great prizes, score free comic books, or paint a pumpkin in Lot 15 -- there is always something for everyone at 3rd Friday. 

Cosplayers can enter the 3rd Friday Costume Contest on North Division Street, for a chance to win huge prizes. Winners will take home giant prize packs filled with collectibles, toys, comic books sponsored by Ocean City Comic Con.

The contest is open to anyone, and will be broken down into two categories, kids 12 and under and adults 13 and up, with special guest host James Dufendach of PLB Comics. Come decked out as your favorite character, or an original creation. Registration is from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and the contest itself starts promptly at 6:15 p.m. on the Government Office Building steps. So come out, look good, and win big. 

Down in Lot 15, near The Acorn Market there will be more special activities like pumpkin painting, pumpkin chuck, a food truck and free comics! Meta Yoga will be hosting a free yoga workshop from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Parker Garden area, just bring your own mat. Son Rise Church will host bounce houses, and the Hawaiian food truck will be there serving snacks. At 5:30 p.m. -- check out a special Halloween performance by Feet of Fire Dance Academy -- out in full force for the annual Halloween tradition.

On the Plaza, there will be live music on the main stage by Matthew Bennett Davey and The Baba Roots, a Delmarva band that plays a mix of rock, reggae, funk, blues, alternative, covers and original music. Check out Barefoot Baby Boutique’s Super Mom Art Contest –where kids can drop off handmade masterpieces depicting their mom as a super hero, for a chance to win her a special gift. The Salisbury Jaycees will be pouring beer and wine and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will have family-friendly prices on burgers and dogs fresh off the grill in the Courtyard. 

Salisbury Art Space will present the 2019 Biannual Members Exhibition, showcasing the artwork of SAS members. There will also be special activities for children -- mask making and ghost stories with Beth Ohlsson -- taking place between 5 and 6 p.m. In the gift shop, check out the monthly highlighted ceramic artist with the Clay Guild of Delmarva plus other fabulous works priced to sell by Salisbury Art Space members.

Salisbury University Art Galleries | Downtown Campus will again show two exhibitions - On Water and Close Waters. On Water brings together photographic explorations of water and its role in our perception of and interactions with the world. Close Waters includes artwork from 12 regional and local emerging artists that is connected to this fundamental substance. Be sure to also check out -- “What if you Fly” -- Salisbury University’s brand mural -- #SalisburyWings by local artist Sarah Perdue. The project was inspired by poet, Erin Hanson, and street artist, Kelsey Montague and was funded by Salisbury University Art Galleries.

The downtown bars and restaurants are ready with live music for 3rd Friday. Roadie Joe’s Bar and Grill will have live music on the patio with Smooth and Remy from 6 to 9 p.m, plus Foggy May from 10 p.m. to close. Market Street Inn will have late night jams with DJ Danny P and Mojo’s will have DJ Vybe spinning all your favorites. The Downtown Trolley will begin its free service at 5:45 at SU Academic Commons to bring students to Downtown Salisbury for 3rd Friday.
