An upcoming community picnic will benefit the family of a local 10-year-old boy battling a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer.
Cameron Kaelin, the son of Ross and Julie Kaelin of Salisbury, is completing fourth grade at Salisbury Christian School. To help raise funds for the family’s uncovered medical costs and travel expenses to Philadelphia, the school’s Interact Club is sponsoring Sunday’s "Caring for the Kaelins Community Picnic" at Delmarva Evangelistic Church from 3 to 6 p.m.
Cameron was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma last November. He and his family have made frequent trips to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia during the past six months for Cameron’s surgery and many rounds of chemotherapy. Cameron is scheduled for three more rounds of chemo.
“We hope this picnic will take some of the financial burden off of this family,” Rotary-Interact Liaison Kathleen Mommé said, “yet will also be evidence that there is an entire community supporting them in their journey.”
The picnic will feature live entertainment by popular local musicians "Alex & Shiloh” and members of the "Picnic" band, along with many family-centered activities, including volleyball, corn hole, face painting, and a bounce house. A silent auction will feature Delmarva Shorebirds tickets, weekend getaways at several locations, babysitting packages, Market Street Inn prizes, and many other local restaurant gift certificates.
Tickets are $10 per person or $35 per family and can be purchased in advance from Salisbury Christian School or the United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore. Please make checks for tickets or general donations payable to “Wicomico Rotary Foundation.”
Delmarva Evangelistic Church is located at 407 Gordy Road in Salisbury.
