The No. 9 Salisbury University men's soccer team found out Monday afternoon that its season will continue, as the NCAA announced the 61-team bracket for the 2014 Division III Men's Soccer Championship and the Sea Gulls were picked as an at-large selection.
SU (12-2-5) will enter the national tournament for the 12th time in program history, opening in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on the campus of Franklin & Marshall College, as the Gulls will face off against the University of Rochester (N.Y.) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
The Yellowjackets received an at-large bid into the tournament with a 9-5-3 overall record, 3-3-1 in the University Athletic Association.
Salisbury has matched up with Rochester twice in program history, maintaining a 1-1 record. In 2006, the Gulls tallied a 1-0 victory against the Yellowjackets at the SU Soccer Complex, before traveling to New York the following year where they dropped a 1-0 decision.
The winner of the Salisbury-Rochester match will advance to the second round against the winner of the host Diplomats and Johnson & Wales (R.I.) University.
SU has met Franklin & Marshall once in program history, in 2011, battling to a 0-0 draw in the second day of the Seahawk Classic in St. Mary's City. The Gulls have never faced Johnson & Wales.
Thirteen sites will host four teams for first- and second-round competition this weekend. Second-round winners will advance to one of four sectional sites Nov. 22-23. Winners of the four sectionals will advance to the national semifinals, which take place Dec. at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Mo.
