Dr. Donna Hanlin leads a delegation of local lawmakers, county officials, school board members and administrators in a hearing last week before the state's Board of Public Works.Wicomico County Board of Education officials presented capital requests in the amount of $13.4 million to the Board of Public Works last week during what Superintendent Dr. Donna Hanlin called “a great day in Annapolis.”
Although dollar amounts are subject to change, requests, in order of priority, were:
Board of education officials should know what requests were granted in May, for the fiscal year that begins July 1, 2018.
Hanlin said county representatives were well received by Gov. Larry Hogan, Comptroller Peter Franchot and Treasurer Nancy Kopp “as we requested final funding for the West Salisbury replacement school, funding for our systemic renovation at Delmar Elementary School, planning for the replacement Beaver Run Elementary School and roof replacements at Pinehurst and Glen Avenue elementary schools.”
“We were very proud to have Principal Mike Cody and Building Service Manager Mona Lisa Price with us from Pittsville Elementary and Middle School, who were recognized by the governor for a superior rating on their recent maintenance inspection.
“We were also joined by Sen. Jim Mathias and Delegates (Carl) Anderton, (Mary Beth) Carozza, (Johnny) Mautz, and (Charles) Otto as well as Deputy County Administrator Weston Young, who joined us at the podium in support of our capital requests,” the superintendent said.
