SSO Holiday Concert is Saturday at SU

The Salisbury Symphony Orchestra at Salisbury University presents its annual Holiday Concert, “A Fandango Holiday,” 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, in Holloway Hall Auditorium.

Directed by Dr. Jeffrey Schoyen, the performance features the return of guest violinist Anton Miller. The program includes selections from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, Fandangos by Roberto Sierra; Symphonie Espagnole by Eduard Lalo and Hupango by José Moncayo, among others.

The concert culminates SU’s annual Winter Music Festival, “The Holidays with a Twist.”

Miller first performed with the SSO in 2009. Since giving his Carnegie Hall concerto debut with the New Chamber Orchestra of New York, he has appeared throughout the United States and abroad as a soloist, chamber musician, recitalist and teacher.

He gave the world premiere performance in Beijing of Xiogang Ye’s “Last Paradise,” which was recorded for broadcast in Asia and later released on CD. He has made several appearances in Brazil to tour, performing Tchaikovsky, Sibelius and Brahms concertos with the Orchestra Sinfonica de Campinas.

Miller is the co-founder and artistic director of the Three Bridges International Chamber Music Festival in Minnesota and was the artistic co-director of the Silver Bay Festival. He also has taught at the Foulger International Music Academy and the Intensive String Quartet Workshop at New York University, among others.

Admission is $25, $20 for seniors age 60 and older, $10 for SU faculty and staff, and $5 for students and children 18 and under. Advance tickets are available online at SalisburySymphonyOrchestra.org and at the Guerrieri University Center Information Desk.

Santa needs your help. Because there are so many people on the nice list this year, Santa has decided to set up a workshop at the Salisbury Zoo.

At this workshop you will be helping Santa create over 15 different craft projects to give as gifts, decorate your home and spread Christmas cheer.

New this year for parents and adults are holiday door swags made from local greenery. Some of the craft projects require a small fee.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Salisbury Zoo's Education Department. Call 410-548-3188 for more info.
