TIVERTON, R.I. - Sophia Jarmon-Camper, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2007, in Tiverton.

She was born Nov. 4, 1927, on Oldfield Road in Church Creek, the daughter of the late Rickison and Viola Henry-Jarmon.

Mrs. Camper was educated in the public schools of Dorchester County. She worked as a domestic in Dorchester County for the Feldman's and the Foxwell families. She could also be seen working side by side with her brother, William, at the P&D Restaurant on Pine Street. She later followed her sister Helen to Wayne, Pa., and continued to work for families on the Main Line. Her domestic service continued in Providence, R.I., until she retired.

As a young girl, Mrs. Camper attended Vaughn Chapel Methodist Church in Old Field. After moving to Cambridge she attended Bethel AME. She worshiped with her family in Wayne, Pa., at St. John's AME. Her religious calling took her to the streets, as an evangelist, ministering the Gospel.

She was united in marriage to Thomas Camper at Bethel AME in 1970. Mr. Camper preceded her in death, along with a son, Derrick Sudler and grandson, Antwine. She is survived by: six sons, the Rev. Lemuel Chester (Lavone) of Cambridge; Sherwood Jarmon (Kay) of Oakland, Calif.; Keith Jarmon (Sarah), of Tiverton, R.I.; Edward and Ricky of Philadelphia; three daughters: Ernie Brooks (Robert) of Geneva, Ala., Cynthia Magnett of East Providence, R.I., and Denise Mitchell (Cleveland) of Tiverton. She is also survived by one sister, Gladys Jarmon-Price of Austin, Texas; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bethel AME Church, with a viewing two hours prior to the service. Burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday in Old Field Cemetery Church Creek.

Arrangements are being handled by the Henry Funeral Home, PA in Cambridge.
