Son's advice: 'Find enjoyment and fulfillment'

David Larmore was a community hero, serving as a volunteer at Peninsula Regional Medical Center and touching thousands of lives across the Lower Shore. Born in 1970 with Spina Bifida and multiple congenital birth defects, David's parents were strongly urged to place him in an institution for care.
Sheldon and Sara Belle Larmore with their son, David, who passed away in 2002 at the age of 32.
But David persevered in ways no one could even have imagined. Though he died at age 32 in 2002, David Larmore remains a figure of admiration and inspiration for those who only encountered him. David’s parents, Sheldon and Sara Belle Larmore of Salisbury, craft a holiday memoriam each year to their late saon. Their 2016 message appears below. -- Editor. -------------------------------------- David, The Christmas season is upon us again filling the air with joy and merriment. It’s that mystical time of the year packed with countless expectations and dreams all neatly tied up in red and green ribbons and bows and tucked under the Christmas tree. For many years this was always a very special time for us as a family as we shopped for gifts, baked cookies, visited friends, prepared dinners for our family gatherings and attended church services. You are now home with your Father in heaven enjoying the glorious celebrations of our Savior’s birthday. We are at peace knowing you are safe, happy and free of pain but we miss your smile, your voice, your hugs … your way of making everything OK. Today we can smile because you lived. We can open our eyes and see all you have left behind for us to cherish. Watching how you greeted people into our home making them feel comfortable and how you truly cared for others you met guided us into realizing Christmas is not as much about opening our presents as opening our hearts. You truly celebrated Christmas well by giving the light of love to those who need it most. We will never forget your kind and loving ways that touched many and served as beacons of faith to those that believe and for those searching for the meaning of life. It’s been said that when you lose a child, especially your only one, you lose your future. This is how we felt as our desire to go on vanished. However, we turned to prayer, trusted in God and remembered you telling us in a letter you left behind that after you are gone you wanted us to continue to find enjoyment and fulfillment in life. David, you taught us well that life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain. Look and trust in the future. Don’t dwell in the past. This holiday we stood by your resting place in the cemetery with pain in our hearts and ample tears flowing down our cheeks as we talked to you and counted our blessings. God truly gave us one of His treasured blessings to raise and nurture. We pray we met His expectations. Even though we miss you beyond words we know you have received a gift far greater than any we could give -- the greatest gift of all -- eternal life in heaven. We count the days when God will give us the privilege to share that gift with you. Thanks for continuing to find us those prized parking spaces and for sending us “dime” messages from heaven. It warms our hearts knowing our son is using his “remote control” in heaven to guide and care for his “aging and forgetful” parents down here on Earth. You taught us well to smile and leave sadness behind. That along with prayers will be our weapon against life’s troubles. We will always have them handy. Our wish for all is we will promise to enjoy the things in life that really matter and carry with us throughout the year the spirit of Christmas – simply to love and care for others. Merry Christmas David and make sure you keep watch over us and others throughout the new year. Thank you, God, for your love and for taking care of our son. Many hugs, kisses and much love, David. We love you more than life.
