SALISBURY - Shelia Davis Layfield died Mar. 24, 2017, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born in Salisbury to Robert and Geneva Wingate Davis, she was a 1969 graduate of James M. Bennett High School, where she was a cheerleader and active in other extracurricular activities. She studied early childhood education and music at Salisbury State College, and taught music briefly at Northwestern Elementary School. She started her own daycare business, Little Bear Daycare, and took care of children in her home for over 35 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Davis. She is survived by her son, Rob Layfield; son, Chris Layfield; three grand-children; a sister, Trisha Gauntt; brothers, Jr. Davis and Jerry Davis; and many nieces and nephews. Services were held Saturday, Apr. 1, 2017, at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Interment was in Wicomico Memorial Park.
