The Salisbury University football team took to the road for its first away contest of the season to square off against William Paterson University. The Sea Gulls blanked the Pioneers 42-0, their second shutout this season, for their third New Jersey Athletic Conference victory of the season.

Jack Navitsky and De'John Broadwater each posted 100-plus yard rushing performances as Navitsky totaled a team-best 130 yards on 19 carries to lead the team. Broadwater rushed for 101 yards on just nine carries and added two touchdowns to his stat line, which tied him for a team-best with Kadarrius Campbell.

The Sea Gulls (4-0, 3-0 NJAC) jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter behind touchdown runs from both Campbell and Broadwater. After forcing one of three William Paterson three-and-outs on the afternoon Navitsky marched the Salisbury offense on a five-play 46-yard touchdown drive that culminated with a 15-yard run by Campbell for the 7-0 lead.

Salisbury doubled its lead on its very next drive, this time embarking on a 7-yard touchdown drive that took under three minutes off the clock. Navitsky did most the work accounting for 49 of the 70 yards on three straight running plays including a 37-yard scamper on second down to get the maroon and gold to the Pioneer 29-yard line. Broadwater would finish off the drive with his first touchdown of the afternoon scoring from 17 yards out to push the advantage to 14-0.

The Gulls took a 21-0 lead into the half off a 13-yard touchdown strike from Navitsky to Cameron Carlyle, their second touchdown connection in the last three games, with just two seconds left to play in the half.

Broadwater and Campbell continued their successful afternoons in the second half with each running for a touchdown in the third quarter. Broadwater finished off the Sea Gulls' first drive of the third quarter punching it in from four yards out to cap a five-play, 45-yard drive.

Then on what proved to be the Sea Gulls' longest drive of the game in both yardage and time of possession, Campbell extended the lead to 35-0 when he found the end zone from four yards out. His second touchdown run of the game capped the 12-play, 78-yard drive that chewed up over six minutes of game time.

The defense played solid throughout the contest holding the Pioneers to just 25 yards on the ground, forcing six punts, and also forcing a fumble while limiting William Paterson to just a 4-of-13 mark on third down.

Patrick Bernardo led all Sea Gulls with seven tackles and a fumble recovery while Austin Farinholt totaled six tackles as well as team-highs in both sacks and tackles for loss with one each. Sean Carroll also turned in a solid performance intercepting Pioneer quarterback Tracy Fudge while also recording six tackles, five of which were solo.

Salisbury returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 6, when it travels to Christopher Newport University for a 6 p.m. contest under the lights against the Captains.
