SAR & DAR remembers a Revolutionary War soldier and his family
SALISBURY — Before Salisbury was founded in 1732, it was known as Handy’s Landing. Henry Handy, a member of one of the city’s founding families and a Revolutionary War (RW) patriot, was remembered in special ceremonies at Parsons Cemetery and Pemberton Hall with one of his 21st Century descendants and some 70 well-wishers including local history aficionados and RW patriot descendants from Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) chapters. The year 2025 will mark the 250th anniversary of the start of the War of Independence at Lexington and Concord..Pemberton Hall was built by the Handy family..Pictured unveiling the new Parsons marker left to right are DAR regent Elaine Powell; Andrea Stine, Handy family descendant and DAR member now living in Florida; and William “Bill” Boston, president of the local SAR chapter.
