Samuel D. McVicker, 49 HANOVER, Pa. - Samuel D. McVicker, 49, of Hanover, Pa., died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, of heart failure at his apartment. Born on June 11, 1960, in Crisfield, Md., he was the son of John and Polly McVicker. He graduated from Westminster High School in Westminster, Md., in 1978, where he was a member of the 1976 football team which reached the State Finals and was Runner up in Class AAA. He was also a member of the track team where he holds records in both the 100 High Hurdles and the 300 Intermediates. While at Frostburg State University, he was a member of the record-setting shuttle hurdle relay while on the track team. After college, he was an organizer and played on the Country Rugby Team. Sam was a construction worker and an avid sports fan. He was a life long fan of the Oakland Raiders. He loved the outdoors, especially the beach. He was honored by the American Red Cross after donating over 5 Gallons of Blood. Sam is survived by his parents, John and Polly McVicker of Cumberland, Md.; and two very special friends, Jan and Caleb Piper of Hanover. The Wetzel Funeral Home, Hanover, is in Charge of arrangements. Respecting his wishes, his body will be cremated. A memorial service will be private.
