EASTON - Ronald Curtis Coleman Turner Sr., 61, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton.

He was born Dec. 5, 1945 in Easton, the seventh of eight children born to the late Howard Otis Turner and Harriett Louise Jackson Turner. He was known as "Doc" from a very early age by all who knew him.

"Doc" attended Frederick Douglass Elementary School in St. Michaels, and Robert Russa Moton Jr./Sr. High School in Easton from which he graduated in 1963. He attended one year at Morgan Sate College in Baltimore.

While at Moton High he was part of the first black team to play for a state championship at the University of Maryland"s Cole Field House. He also holds the Moton scoring record of 56 points in a single game.

Mr. Turner married his high school sweetheart, Ernestine Lee Cooper on Dec. 14, 1963. They were married for 43 years and were the parents of three children.

He became a Christian early in his adult life and was a member of Bethel AME Church in Easton serving as a member on the board of trustees.

He was an entrepreneur and owned and operated several businesses in Easton. In the late 1970s he established Turner"s Heating and Air-Conditioning and later in the 90s he established Turner Contracting.

Hunting was one of his passions. In 1999 he bagged a 12-point trophy buck.

Mr. Turner"s survivors include his wife, Ernestine; two daughters, Alison (Lamont) Copper of Goose Creek, S.C., Nicole (Cecil) Burrowes of Herndon, Va.; a son, Ronald Curtis Jr. (Lisa) Turner of Bowie; grandchildren - Tiffany, Crystal, Asha and Cameron Copper, Emiah Burrowes and Isaiah Turner; brothers, Gerald of Bellevue, Maurice (Ruby) of Decatur, Ga. and Hilbert (Goldy) of Royal Oak. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Nannie Mae Boulden of Easton, Nancy Turner of Upper Marlboro and Katecia Turner of Largo, Fla.; a special nephew, Nicholas Turner Jr. of Easton; in-laws- Elizabeth (Fred) Holland of Preston, Robert (Hannah) Goldsborough of Denton, Jeffrey Chester of Easton, Kevin (Angie) Chester of Glen Burnie, Allison (Mickey) Hynson of St. Michaels, Darlene Chester of Easton, Joyce (Richard) Camper of Easton, Regina Holland of Preston and Charlene Holland of Dover, Del.; and a number of nephews, nieces and cousins.

Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Nicholas Turner Sr., Gene Turner, Preston Turner and sister, Joyce Turner Landman.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Union Baptist Church in Easton with a viewing held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. preceding the services. Burial will follow at Richards Memorial Cemetery in Easton.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in the name of Ronald C. Turner Sr. to the Bethel AME Church building fund at Bethel AME Church, P.O. Box 726, Easton, MD 21601.

Arrangements are being handled by the Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Easton.
