Rogers Edward Dail

Rogers Edward Dail, 84, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at Dorchester General Hospital.

He was born in Cambridge on Nov. 26, 1922, and was a son of the late John Edward and Mary Smith Dail.

Mr. Dail graduated from Cambridge High School in 1940. On Jan. 9, 1943, he married Katherine Seward.

Mr. Dail was drafted in the U.S. Army during World War II under Gen. George S. Patton of the 29th Division in 1943. He was wounded in combat and was at Fort Dix, N.J. Army Hospital for 13 months. He received the Purple Heart, Oak Leaf Clusters, European Africian Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal.

He was a very good rifleman in leading his group unit. Mr. Dail received his honorable discharge in 1946 as a staff sergeant. After months of rehab, Mr. Dail was able to go back to work. He had worked for Cambridge Wire Cloth for 45 years before retiring.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Katherine Dail of Cambridge; a daughter, Karen Dail Brittingham of Cambridge; a son, Larry Dail and wife, Martha of Cambridge; three grandchildren, Teresa B. Smith, Matthew and Caitlin Dail and two great-grandchildren, Megan and Lauren Smith.

Besides his parents, Mr. Dail was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Dail.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. Robert G. Kirkley officiating. Burial will follow at Spedden Seward Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Willey, Robert Todd, David Marshall Sr., David Marshall Jr., Matthew Dail, Timothy Marshall and Harold Brannock.
