CAMBRIDGE - Roger Allan Pfost of Cambridge, and formerly of Taylor's Island died at his home on May 18, 2009. Roger was born in Rockville Center, N.Y., on April 3, 1934. His parents were Carl August and Alice DanJunas Pfost. He attended Hofstra University and was a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy. His wife of 37 years, Beverley Basnight Pfost died on Taylor's Island in 1996. Roger and Bev fell in love with the Eastern Shore when they first visited in the early 1960's. They gave up their "day jobs" in the insurance industry in Silver Spring, built a home on Slaughter Creek which they named "Marshy Hope," and became nautical antique dealers spreading Eastern Shore nautical history throughout the U.S. Roger was a docent at the Richardson Maritime Museum for many years. He and Bev truly loved their lives here, their Labrador Retrievers, the Taylor's Island Fire Department community dinners, the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, lovingly restoring antiques and preserving the history of the area, and fishing and crabbing from their dock. Roger is survived by his sister, Patricia Pfost of Santa Fe, N.M.; a cousin, Victoria Hoffmann of Edenton, N.C.; and by his beloved Border Collies, Daisy and Duffy. Roger was always very grateful to the Cambridge Humane Society from which he adopted the dogs and who are lovingly placing them together in a good home. We thank anyone who would like to make a contribution to the Dorchester County Humane Society in Roger's honor. Condolences and reminiscences may be sent to pfost@netstep.net.
