1950-2020
Robert John Lehnert, Jr. lost his brief battle with brain cancer on Monday, December 28, 2020. At the time of death, he was surrounded by loving family.
"Rob" was born on February 14, 1950 in Toledo, Ohio to parents Robert and Jacqueline English Lehnert. He attended elementary school at Our Lady Of Perpetual Help in Toledo and graduated from Palatine High School in Palatine, Ill. He played basketball during his high school years, and as a young man enjoyed many rounds of golf with his father. He always credited his father with teaching him the nuances of the game and proper golf etiquette.
Preceded in death by his father, Robert, Sr.; brother, Ronald; and nephew, Jonathan Bloomer.
He is survived by his loving mother, Jacqueline; sisters, Linda Varner, Mary Bloomer, Carolyn (Terry) Jackson; brothers, Richard and Matthew (Jill) Lehnert; and his devoted companion, Peggy Battle. Rob was a much-loved member of Peggy's family, and "Uncle Robbie" was adored by his many nieces and nephews.
Robert retired from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in August 2012 where he held the position of Senior IT Specialist at the FDIC campus in Arlington, Va. Prior to government service, Rob was a proud veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and earning numerous commendations while serving his country. After retirement, Rob and Peggy moved to Salisbury, Maryland, where they enjoyed kayaking the rivers and streams of the Eastern Shore, and Rob continued to play golf frequently. They also traveled extensively, including several cruises and trips abroad.
A private family service will be held in Columbus, Ohio at a later time.
If you wish to make a gift to mark his passing, contributions may be made in Rob's name to a charity of your choice or to: The Humane Society of Wicomico County, 5130 Citation Drive, Salisbury, MD 21804; Stansell House of Coastal Hospice, 1500 Ocean Parkway, Ocean Pines, MD 21811; or The Wellness Center, MAC, Inc., 909 Progress Circle, Salisbury, MD 21804.
