CAMBRIDGE - Robert E. Luthy, 24, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007.
He was born in Salisbury on Aug. 29, 1983, and was a son of Mark J. and Diann Etchison Luthy.
Robert graduated from Cambridge-South Dorchester High School in 2002. After graduation he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and then served nine months in Iraq. At the time of his honorable discharge in 2006, he was ranked as corporal and received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Combat "V"), Combat Action Ribbon (Iraq), Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (Iraq), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Medal, Navy Unit Commendation and Certificate of Appreciation.
He had worked for Tri County Trenching and with Cambridge Wire Cloth for a short period of time. Some of his hobbies were playing games, electronics and working with his computer.
He is survived by his parents, Mark and Diann Luthy of Cambridge; a brother, Mark Luthy Jr. of Cambridge; a sister, Angie Lewis of Roanoke, Va.; paternal grandmother, Marilyn Luthy of Cambridge; a great-grandmother, Esther Hurley of Salisbury; a niece, Gabrielle Lewis; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Clarence "Buck" Etchison and Nancy Etchison and paternal grandfather, John Luthy Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, at Immanuel United Church of Christ near Cambridge with the Rev. Joan Evans officiating. Burial will follow at Bucktown Churchyard.
Pallbearers will be Leonid Shatkin, Adam Etchison, Brandon Fitzhugh, Aaron "Fuzzy" Lewis, Jason Coffman and Michael Lewis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Immanuel United Church of Christ, 5401 White Hall Road, Cambridge, MD 2161,3 or to the Veterans' Recognition Committee, 925 Parsons Drive, Madison, MD 21648.
Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
