UPPER FAIRMOUNT - Robert Allen Nevins, 51, passed away Monday, July 2, 2007, after a heroic battle against cancer.

Bob grew up in northern Virginia and found his true home in Upper Fairmount. He worked as an HVAC service technician for Boland Services for 22 years, was a member of Local 602 and found his passion as a volunteer firefighter and nationally registered EMT for the Fairmount Volunteer Fire Co. and Princess Anne Fire Co. He served as president of the Somerset County Firemen"s Association from 2005 to 2006. He set an example of quiet but powerful leadership for those who came to serve others. Bob loved cooking and took great pleasure in seeing people enjoy his food. He was also a champion amateur power lifter, winning a national title.

Bob leaves behind his loving wife, Sue; his parents, Winfield and Audrey; two daughters, Jenifer and Colleen; a son, Robert Jr.; and five grandchildren, Brianna, Chyanne, James, Nathan and Olivia. He also leaves behind a brother, David; a sister, Sharon; nieces and nephews; and many devoted friends. He will be sorely missed.

A funeral service was held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne. The Rev. Andrew Turner officiated. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery in Fairmount. A celebration of his life followed at the Fairmount Volunteer Fire Co.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Memorial Fund for Bob Nevins, Fairmount Fire Co., P.O. Box 395, Upper Fairmount, Md. 21867.
