Rita Adelaide McMahon, 85 STEVENSVILLE, Md. - Rita Adelaide McMahon died Monday, March 1, 2010, at the Heartfield Assisted Living Facility in Easton, Md. She was 85. Born on Nov. 2, 1924, in Lancaster, Pa., she was the daughter of James L. Murphy and Cecilia Mobley Murphy. She grew up in Baltimore, Md., where she graduated from Seton High School. On May 18, 1946, she married Henry Thomas McMahon. In 1967 they moved to the Eastern Shore where they made their home. She was an avid reader, enjoyed exercising in the pool, entertaining family and friends, and eating crabs and beer. She was a past Ladies Auxiliary President of the Kent Island American Legion, a founding member of the Romancoke on the Bay Improvement Association, and was also a St. Christopher's Lecturer and Eucharist Minister. Mrs. McMahon is survived by her two daughters, Kathy Ayres and her husband Dean of Phoenix, Md., and Janet Crutchley and her husband Steve of Stevensville, Md.; two sons, Pat McMahon and his wife Cathy of Grasonville, Md., and Mike McMahon and his wife Martha of Woolford, Md.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Thomas McMahon; two sisters, Dorothy Murphy, and Mickey Bartlett; and brother, Jimmy Murphy. Family and friends called from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 106 Shamrock Road, Chester, Md. A funeral service was 11 a.m., Thursday, March 4, at St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 1861 Harbor Drive, Chester, Md. Interment followed at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Queen Anne's County High school Alumni Association, P.O.
