Richard Arlen Laird

TANGIER, Va. - Mr. Richard Arlen Laird, 75, husband of Darlene Laird and a lifelong resident of Tangier, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md. Born on Dec. 12, 1935, he was a son of the late Richard H. Laird and Margaret Ellen Crockett Laird. He was a Waterman and member of Swain Memorial United Methodist Church, and a member of AARP. Other than his wife, survivors include a son, Richard W. Laird of Tangier; a sister, Bonnie Landon and husband Burke of Tangier; two grandchildren, Richard W. Laird Jr. of Tangier, and Shelby G. Laird of Ruckersville; two sisters-in-law, Brenda Laird and Gayle Laird; and several nieces and nephews. Other than his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Leah Abraham; and two brothers, Fred and Jack Laird. Funeral services were conducted from the Swain Memorial United Methodist Church on Tangier, Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 2 p.m. The Reverends Patricia Stover, Edward Pruitt and Mr. Duane Crockett officiated. Interment followed in the Laird Family Cemetery. There was a visitation at the church on Monday, March 28, 2011 from 7 until 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Swain Memorial United Methodist Church Parsonage Fund, P.O.
