As you're driving down North Salisbury Boulevard near the Priscilla Street intersection, you'll see what looks like a pile of dirt and broken up concrete.

There’s more to it -- what you see is the beginning of the restoration of the 1955 Wicomico County War Memorial.

A team from Delmarva Veteran Builders, along with War Memorial Committee Members and volunteers, started renovations to the monument site last weekend.

Restoration plans include the refinishing of the monument and fountain, renovation of the tile plaza, replacement of the electrical lighting system and irrigation system, improving the site’s ADA accessibility, replacing benches, installing new and additional service flagpoles, and installing new landscaping.

Another part of the project includes updating the parchment scroll sealed in the monument with the names of Wicomico County servicemen and women who gave their lives in the service of our Country since the original construction was completed in 1955.

A Go Fund Me account has been established and has raised about $20,000 so far from various donors. About $30,000 is needed for an endowment to erect flags from each branch of the military and to replace them annually.
