Wesley Cox, a member of the Coastal Association of Realtors and a Realtor for Sperry Van Ness-Miller Commercial Real Estate in Salisbury, was recently honored for his community service during the annual Maryland Association of Realtors Conference & Expo in Ocean City.
The MAR Community Service Award honors individual members who give unselfishly of their time to assist the communities in which they live. Cox was nominated for the honor by Coastal Realtors, from which he received the local Community Service Award in August.
“It's an honor to have been presented with such a prestigious state level award out of 21,000-plus Maryland Realtors and to represent the real estate industry as a community service advocate,” Cox said. “The true reward is not receiving recognition though, it's witnessing the lives of those that are impacted.”
Cox regularly volunteers for numerous local organizations, including the Christian Shelter, the Salvation Army, the Mission of Mercy, and the Chesapeake Housing Mission.
In addition, Cox has delivered food to families that could not afford Thanksgiving dinner, delivered dictionaries to all third graders in Wicomico County, and helped create an entrepreneurial training program for veterans, among others.
Cox currently serves on CAR’s board of directors. He also serves on the boards of directors for the Wicomico Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Additionally, Cox is a member of the Salisbury University Perdue School Career Advisory Board and is a past member of the board of directors for the Lower Shore American Red Cross.
Cox is a member of The Uprising Church in Hebron, a full-time varsity soccer coach at Salisbury Christian School, and a former assistant coach for the West Salisbury Little League.
“We are very proud of Wes, not only for this award, but also for all the good work he does in his community,” said Sheila Dodson, CAR executive director. “Wes is a prime example of how invested local REALTORS® are in their communities, both professionally and personally.”
