Rain expected to depart in time to begin Folk Festival

Posted

It’s raining this morning in Salisbury, but the wet weather is expected to be gone by 3 p.m.

The National Folk Festival officially begins at 6 p.m. this evening in Downtown Salisbury on the Community Stage on North Division Street.

Guitarist Bill Kirchen will appear with a public parade beginning at 6:45 and proceeding to the PRMC Stage on Carroll Street.

As Hurricane Dorian moves up the East Coast, Salisbury -- as of early this afternoon -- is receiving a significant amount of its showers, with rainfall of an inch or more possible.

Forecasters say the weather will gradually become partly cloudy, with temperatures in the 70s and north winds of 8 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.

The weather for Saturday and Sunday is expected to be spectacular and beautiful: Saturday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 81; Sunday will be sunny, with a high near 81.
