Questions abound in teen's shooting death

Detectives of the Salisbury Police Criminal Investigation Division are searching for a suspect or suspects in connection with the overnight murder of a teenager in the parking lot of the America’s Best Value Inn at 2625 North Salisbury Blvd.

The victim is identified as Rakim Lamont Russell, 17, of Nentego Drive in Fruitland.

According to police, their investigation revealed that Russell was shot at the motel across Route 13 from Panera Bread.

He was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. His body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

The Salisbury Police Department was assisted by members of the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, Delmar Police Department, Fruitland Police Department, Maryland State Police, and a K-9 Unit from the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office.

Police said details are few at this point in the investigation and no suspect descriptions are yet available.

Anyone with information about this murder is urged to contact Crime Solvers of the Lower Eastern Shore immediately at (410) 548-1776. Crime Solvers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for this crime.

The investigation is continuing.
