TidalHealth Peninsula Regional’s names quarterly employees
TidalHealth has honored four team members as fourth quarter 2021 Employees of the Quarter.
Donna Webster of Purchasing is Employee of the Quarter for Administrative and Support Services.
Webster is known for providing exceptional service to everyone, including those who work with and around her, external vendors and her internal customers from throughout the health system. As Purchasing’s “go-to” person, she’s constantly ready to stop what she’s doing to assist others and is instrumental in mentoring new employees to the department.
Amy McIntyre of Information Services is the Employee of the Quarter for Professional Services.
McIntyre is an electronic Medical Record analyst. Much of what she builds and maintains isn’t front and center on a regular basis, but as one of only two analysts steadily working to keep the hundreds of cancer treatment plans and protocols up to date, her work is essential for TidalHealth providers to have access to the most current patient care and planning information in Salisbury, Seaford and Ocean Pines.
Amanda Russo of patient care unit 5 South is one of the Employees of the Quarter for Nursing Services.
Perhaps there’s no greater compliment to have said of you than, “you are the nurse that I wish I could be,” and that is exactly how Russo’s nominator described her. Known for being compassionate, caring, and an incredibly unselfish person and nurse, Amanda is always willing to help any member of the 5 South team with any task.
She’s known for taking time from her busy schedule to create time to just sit and talk with patients who need a friendly voice and a smiling face.
Robin Forrest of Same Day Surgery is also an Employee of the Quarter for Nursing Services.
Forrest works in Pre-Admission Testing and is one of the unsung “behind the scenes” heroes who ensure that patients are optimized and ready for surgery.
Forrest is an advocate for her patients and very thorough in her pre-op phone calls. She listens, which is key, and does what she can to alleviate all concerns. If there’s something a doctor needs to know about his or her patient before surgery, Robin makes sure they have that information.
Wor-Wic’s Adam Tavel earns writing grant
“Poetry is like a river,” said Adam Tavel, professor of English at Wor-Wic Community College and a poet outside the classroom. “It reshapes your landscape; you can get in it and splash around; it has a flow.”
Now Tavel has a raft on which to navigate that river: a $10,000 grant from the Maryland State Arts Council to support his poetry writing. The grant came as part of the state’s Independent Artist Regional Award; the goal of the program is to encourage artistic growth and sustained practice. Tavel is one of only 10 in the state to receive the award, and the only on the Lower Eastern Shore.
“As a working writer, the grant will help supplement my income so I can spend more time writing,” Tavel said. “But it means more than that – it validates the time and energy… it recognizes that poetry and creative pursuits have a value.”
In his 17th year of teaching at Wor-Wic, Tavel is active in organizing poetry readings on campus and helping to put together the Echoes & Visions creative arts journal. He also brings the unique perspective of a working writer to the classroom.
Set to make a splash of their own, Tavel’s fourth and fifth books of poetry will be published this spring, so stay tuned for information about upcoming readings of the new works.
